I am afraid we must make the world honest before we can honestly say to our children that honesty is the best policy… The surest way to remain poor is to be an honest man. The way my luck is running, if I was a politician I would be honest…

A blind friend recently told me — only half jokingly — that he has never seen an honest man. Hmm… Come to think of it, neither have I. At least not one I could trust. And the trouble is you … Continue reading

We supposedly live in the freest country in the world. But only in our dreams are we free. The rest of the time we need wages. The issue isn’t just jobs. Even slaves had jobs. The minimum wage buys less than it has at any point in the last 50 years…

My youthful summer jobs were mostly consumed working the family farm and in my irascible father’s chainsaw factory… for 15-cents an hour. That was only for the first 40 – for the additional back 30 hours a week I got … Continue reading

I tried to commit suicide by sticking my head in the oven, but there was a cake in it. Hmm…There is something both great and terrible about suicide, euthanasia and such. But the law is ‘law-fool’ and afflicts us foolishly. The only difference between suicide and martyrdom is press coverage.

One of the times I tried suicide the rope ended up being too long. Hmm… Don’t laugh. This was a tragic miscalculation. After all, I was a math major. Another time I tried overdosing on what I thought was sleeping … Continue reading

Reality is the leading cause of stress among those in touch with it. Stress wilts everything, including my testosterone — which is so low I am practically transgendered. If Republicans have something better than Obamacare then put it out there. Otherwise our present health system is bloody damn horrendous….

During a physical my doc pushed his tortoise shell spectacles high on his expanding forehead, exhaled in that weary professional demeanor, and, while tapping  my medical file on his crossed knees, wondered if I was having any exacerbating problems? Hmm… … Continue reading
