- I am not here to grieve Larry’s death, but to thank G-d that such a man lived. Indeed, the timing of his demise, like the ending of a story, gives a changed meaning to what preceded it. And obviously, true wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves and the world around us…
- Children begin by loving their parents; then they judge them; rarely, do they forgive them. But blame is for G-d and the small children we must keep from going insane. Leanne discovered she couldn’t have them. And I had married into insanity. Indeed, mothers may be fonder than fathers of their children because they are more certain they are their own…
- Imagination was given to man to compensate for what he is not; a sense of humor to console him for what he is. We don’t lose our sense of humor because we get old. We get old because we lose our sense of humor. The problem with humor is often that people you use it on aren’t in a very good mood. And Joey G was cute when he was being humorless…
- Just as there are doctors who help people who have done bad things, there are lawyers who defend bad people. People do not win fights, lawyers do. Everyone thinks defense lawyers must believe their clients are innocent, but that’s seldom true. Most of the time they are guilty as O.J… yet Trev also got his client off — mostly…
- Mother’s Day can be a torment, especially if your mother’s been dead less than a year… Men are what their mothers made them. And my mother was slightly insane. She told us baked potato skins were bad for us – so she could devour ours. Hmm… I write a mental letter to my mother every day… and apparently so does my brother…

With just a tad of a snide edge in her Australian accent she wondered about my butterfly pins, as in “What’s up with them?” At the same time her long fingers lightly examined the broach arrangement of the colorful flying … Continue reading

It is a tragedy of the world that no one knows what he doesn’t know – for the less a man knows, the more sure he is that he knows everything. Too bad we didn’t get to know what Harambe knew. Perhaps it was that he’d rather die a meaningful death than live a meaningless life. For the tragedy of life is what dies inside a man or beast while he lives…
Perhaps because I live alone I find it harder to find someone to blame. Except the weather. But there’s nothing I can do about the weather. Just as there is nothing I can do about all those folks from Florida … Continue reading

Bambi has a profound effect on children – like me – because it’s about losing your mother. My ailing mother isn’t the only person begging to die. But right now she is the only person begging me. And I’m a coward. Hell, I am not afraid of dying. I just don’t want to be there when it happens.
If I wasn’t a coward I would have put a pillow over my mother’s imploring face and ended her misery. My misery. Everyone’s misery. But the world is so complicated. So ripe with legalese. We can put an animal out … Continue reading

From the recent conventions you must agree that Republicans have nothing but bad ideas. And the Democrats have no ideas. Indeed, democracy is the recurrent suspicion that more than half of the people are right more than half of the time. And I’ve come to believe the only difference between Republicans and Democrats is Democrats allow the poor to be corrupt, too…
I have a confession. I have been a Republican – at least in my lustful heart — since birth. But in truth, I have never found a Republican to vote for. It’s not that I don’t trust them. I trust … Continue reading

All men make mistakes, but married men find out about them sooner. And this got me to thinking: Now that I am able to complete my own sentences it’s time to say something nice about my ex-wife…or would that be a mistake?
I would like to say something nice about my last ex-wife. Hmm… You know, the one: Stephanie Blatt. The green-eye She-Devil from the other side of midnight. The reason G-d made bourbon. The living proof that exorcism doesn’t work. And … Continue reading

If Dick Cheney would have shot Trayvon Martin would they have called it another hunting accident? Would they have termed it a racist thing, or just another stupid act by another rich white guy with a gun license…
Six years back when Bush’s Vice President ‘Dick’ shot that Texas attorney perilously close to death everybody who had something to gain or maintain, quickly called it a “hunting accident.” Had that fellow-hunting-fool died of his heart attack and collapsed … Continue reading

Ekatarina thought I wanted to have an affair with her when I said I wanted her to help me meet a naughty Russian girl. Indeed, it’s a strange world of language when skating on thin ice will get you into hot water…
Ekatarina is getting to be a pain in the derriere. Now I already know I am. But I am an acquired taste. In fact, when some folks notify me I am being a pain in the butt I tell them: … Continue reading
