Obstacles to job creation in America are a result of policy, not of motivation. Small business owners are fighting every day to create and innovate, but continue to face government barriers. And next week we are voting for our government. And that got me to thinking about the time dear ol’ Pappy ran for governor… And my policy — to always vote against…

Some 40 years ago my father — a farmer, manufacturer and political provocateur — walked out of a taproom tucked in a country dale by the Brandywine River, not far from the eponymous revolutionary battle site in our war of … Continue reading

My 94-year-old Mother and I had a heart to bad heart talk over the holidays. And she still thinks I’m an SOB. And I couldn’t agree more…

My 94-year-old mother had a heart attack for the holiday season. And I got blamed for it. I mean I usually am held responsible for stuff like that. I would say it’s because I am Jewish. But then again, I … Continue reading

I consider myself to be a pretty good judge of people — that’s why I don’t like most of them. I like to call everyone I find more than a tad annoying a sociopath. And when you have an alleged sociopath adjudging on a State Supreme Court then Justice is to be found only in the imagination…

Hmm… As an incipient young journalist when I walked into a courtroom I felt like I was walking into a cathedral. But it didn’t take long to disavow any such notion. And to realize it was more like walking into … Continue reading

A judge is a law student who marks his own examination papers. The courts are so backed up that one lawyer has sued them. While we needed to clean up our medical bizness we also need to kick ass and quit chewing gum with the overpriced, time consuming ‘ill – legal’ system…

In Mike’s angry, white-knuckled fist was a crumpled $75 citation he had received from the City. It was for a ‘false police alarm’ at his telephone shop on Ninth Street in the heart of South Philadelphia’s celebrated Italian Market. Only … Continue reading

I tried to commit suicide by sticking my head in the oven, but there was a cake in it. Hmm…There is something both great and terrible about suicide, euthanasia and such. But the law is ‘law-fool’ and afflicts us foolishly. The only difference between suicide and martyrdom is press coverage.

One of the times I tried suicide the rope ended up being too long. Hmm… Don’t laugh. This was a tragic miscalculation. After all, I was a math major. Another time I tried overdosing on what I thought was sleeping … Continue reading

When I was a kid I used to pray for a new bicycle. Then I realized the Lord doesn’t work that way. So I stole one and asked Him to forgive me. Hmm… Every time I see an adult on a bicycle I no longer despair for the future of the human race. Life is like a 10-speeder — most of us have gears we never use…

During one of my recent post midnight cigar strolls about Philadelphia I came upon two street punks. Night-preyers. They were ‘break’ dancing rather poorly – stomping, kicking and swinging at a tall, good-looking fellow of about 30. Apparently they were … Continue reading

It seems like most everyone, everywhere is lying these days. They only tell the truth when there is more profit in it. But if you throw the crap back in their face they learn there are consequences. Everyone, that is, except my ex-Stephanie…

The death notice in a local Ohio newspaper included a simple last request by the deceased, Scott Entsminger. The avid Cleveland Browns fan, sought that his beloved NFL team provide six pall bearers to carry him to his grave — … Continue reading
